From the beginning of 2019 through March of 2020 we completely transformed the original Colonial Arms building in the West End of Hartford Historical district. The new building, “The Cornerstone”, received a historical restoration to its exterior and a complete layout transformation to it’s interior. GN Construction was the General Contractor for the whole project. On the first floor 5 new storefronts were created. We repurposed existing brick, repointed the whole building and repaired all the architectural concrete details in this beautiful 100+ year old building. We built a new handicap ramp to also match the existing building casting out of concrete, complete with a landing, two staircases, and new custom metal railing.
Inside we framed 5 new retail spaces and 13 residential units (1 and 2 bedroom mix). From providing the building with new plumbing, electrical, heat and Airconditioning, to soundproofing each space, we did it all. Inside we installed modern finishes, from LVT flooring, to modern European styled kitchens. We took a 10-year eyesore in a busy intersection and transformed it to a beautiful structure.
